Ever since I moved to Thailand and have lived for over a decade, I still sometimes wonder why, aside from me, millions of tourists are attracted to visiting Thailand each year. 

Being here in Thailand for so long, viewing the Kingdom as a tourist destination is almost impossible when it is already my home. However, when I was a few wrinkles younger and a few million baht richer, I used to visit Thailand on holiday.

After much pondering and reflection, I have conjured up 10 main reasons why a Thailand holiday is so unforgettable and appealing 🏅

#10 World-Class Diving Locations

Thailand has some of the best scuba diving sites in the world 🧔 Out in the waters surrounding Phi Phi Islands and Koh Phangan, you will find awe-inspiring dive spots. Exploring the Andaman Ocean in Phuket, you will find the Similan Islands, one of the world's best dive locations. In and around the Gulf of Thailand near Pattaya, some quality wrecks and reefs 🏅 Koh Lipe, Koh Lak, and Surin Island are just a few more islands that make Thailand a scuba diving paradise. 

#9 Playing Golf in Thailand

Some people come to Thailand to enjoy a golf holiday. Playing golf in Thailand is pretty amazing 🧔 The nation has some beautiful courses, such as the courses at Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Red Mountain GC, Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Amata Springs in Bangkok Countryside, and Black Mountain in Hua Hin. The courses are always in immaculate condition. You will get a Thai caddy, which means you won’t have to carry your clubs or clean your balls, which always gives me a bad back.

Thailand can be a bit wild, in the nicest possible way, and that’s why we like it. If you have never bribed a police officer, you might get the chance on a Thailand holiday. There is a certain lawless charm about the place that is so addictive while being surprisingly unthreatening at the same time 🏅 Rules are enforced in Thailand, but it depends on what day it is. It is an aspect of Thai culture that is always fascinating.

Nobody does it quite like Thailand regarding hospitality, charm, and smiling faces. The country is known as ‘The Land of Smiles,’ and it is infectious when enjoying a Thailand holiday. If you are turning up at a top-notch eatery, a hotel, or for a round of golf, you will always find a hoard of Thai females waiting to greet you like a long-lost explorer. Their hands clasped together while saying ‘Sawadee Ka’ in unison. It gets me every time! 

#4 Value For Money

Although the Thai baht has been very strong against Western currencies since the world economic crash, Thailand is still a place of undoubted value for money. You can get yourself a hotel room with air-con in Thailand for as little as 700 THB per night 🥇 Extremely nice rooms in 5-star resorts can cost as little as 3,000 THB. One of the best values in terms of accommodation is renting out a villa. Some holiday villa rentals cost as little as 5,000 THB per night and have 4-beds that can sleep eight people or four couples. Put this together with cheap food, shopping, and much more, and Thailand is still one of the most affordable places in the world.

#3 The Thai Island Holiday Experience

There is nothing that can match that ultra-special Thai island holiday experience. Choose the more commercial route of visiting the dreamy shores of Phuket or Koh Samui. Or opt for other exciting and less-traveled islands such as Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta, Koh Chang, or Koh Samed. Thailand’s Islands are amazing, and the atmosphere is breathtaking. If you are in Phuket or other Southern regions such as Koh Phangan and Krabi, get to James Bond Island. Phi Phi, with its surrounding islands, was the location of the Leonardo di Caprio movie The Beach 🥇 

#2 Thailand’s Sunshine and Warm Climate

Let’s be brutally honest here. As much as we love everything about Thailand, if the Kingdom were in the middle of Siberia, we would never go there on holiday. The all-year-round high temperatures that douse Thailand in the beautiful sun rays are a massive factor for holidaying here. The temperatures rarely go under 30 degrees.

The only place in Thailand that is not blistering hot all year round is Chiang Mai in the North. In a year, the best time to travel to Thailand with the least rainfall and humidity is between November and April 🥇 Between May and October, you might stumble into some rain. Still, you will experience the humidity of what is now called ‘Green Season.’ 

#1 Beautiful Beaches in Thailand

This one thing that goes hand-in-hand with having copious amounts of sunshine is the beautiful beaches in Thailand. Some tourists stay in Krabi, Phangan, Phuket, and Koh Samui to bask on Thai beaches all day to bronze their torsos.

If you want any recommendations for beaches in Thailand, we would recommend Railay Beach in Krabi, which does have to be seen to be believed. If you are in Phuket, we would recommend Nai Harn Beach, and if you are in Samui, not many beaches can compete with Maenam. Although Pattaya is not generally known for its beaches, Pattaya Beach, Bangsaray Beach, and the Thai Navy Beach at Sai Kaew are great choices.
