The Sangkhlaburi area of Northwest Thailand is located close to the Myanmar border. It is part of the scenic and historical Kanchanaburi Province. People visit Thailand generally in the main tourist places such as Phuket, Pattaya, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok), Koh Samui, and Sangkhlaburi.

So, what are you waiting for? Come with us to witness one of the jewels of nature the Sangkhlaburi District has to offer.

The Bear Travel  Fun Fact!

Sangkhlaburi is a dreamy place to visit and offers a lot of stunning places to visit. If you are lucky, you can witness the Sunken Temple when the water level recedes in April or walk the wooden Uttamanusorn Bridge and enjoy the beautiful views.

Saphan Mon (Mon Bridge)

Saphan Mon is more famously known as Mon Bridge in English. It's a 400-meter-long wooden bridge that is the longest bridge made by hand in Thailand. This is a beautiful place to sit with a drink in hand and absorb the stunning surrounding nature. There is even a small café near the bridge.

If you decide to cross the bridge, be careful because the bridge has been repaired numerous times and is hardly the steadiest! Make a donation, if possible, to help with the upkeep of the bridge. And if you do, you will receive a complimentary photo.

Khao Laem Reservoir

Khao Laem Reservoir is located in the Khao Laem National Park in the northern part of the Sangkhlaburi district. The main attraction in the park is the reservoir where you can camp or do spot fishing. This is an excellent place for taking in the surrounding flora and fauna.

The reservoir enjoys raised wooden platforms where you can relax and enjoy the views across the water along the Myanmar border.

The Bear Travel   Did You Know?

Sangkhlaburi was founded by Luang Phor Uttama when he fled Myanmar with 60 families in 1949. Also considered one of the most visited tourist destinations, the Khao Laem reservoir covers most of this place.

Golden Mon Chedi Buddhakhaya

If you cross the Mon Bridge, you will find the village of Wangka, home to the Mon people. The Mon people of the Sangkhlaburi district originally came from over the border in Myanmar. They set up an entire village with the help of their leader, Luang Phor Uttama, in 1949. 60 families fled Myanmar to set up the village. The area is home to the golden Mon Chedi Buddhakhaya, located at Wat Wang Wiwekaram.

Here you will find a gargantuan golden (painted) chedi designed and built by Phara Uttama, considered one of the most revered monks in Thailand. This golden chedi is one of the most unearthed sites in the entire region.

Three Pagoda Pass

The Three Pagoda Pass is situated directly on the Myanmar-Thai border at Tenasserim Hills, Sangkhlaburi, and is a very popular place with tourists in the region. You can actually obtain a one-day visa there to nip into Burma.

On the Thai side of the border, you can enjoy visiting Payathonsu, a great place to visit during the Songkran New Year Festival in April. On the Burmese side of the border, take your time to visit one of the fantastic handicraft establishments to purchase very affordable wooden furnishings, carvings, and textiles.

The Bear Travel   Trivia!

Uttamanusorn Bridge is 850 meters, making it the world's second-longest wooden bridge.
