Travel to Phuket: Day 2 Trip to Down South

Hey 🤩 Shane here again! Surely, you had fun on my travel to Phuket on day 1 and made the most of it.

Although Phuket is known as one of the most beautiful islands in the world, the south of Phuket is the most stunning area of the island and is known for some of the most amazing beaches, viewpoints, and scenery. 

So, grab your backpack now and enjoy the details of my trip to the South of Phuket on Day 2.

8:30 am - Wat Chalong

I started off my second-day trip at 8:30 in the morning with a visit to the most revered Wat Chalong 🤩 This is simply one of the finest Buddhist temples in Phuket and has become my favorite, just like it is with tourists and locals alike. The temple is not only the largest but also the most visited on the island.

10 am - Big Buddha Temple (Chalong)

A short drive from Chalong Temple is the lofty Big Buddha Temple and viewpoint. I reached there at 10:00 am and quickly meandered up the winding mountainside tracks to the peak of the summit. The 45-meter-high golden Buddha statue can be observed from miles around. The panoramic views allow you to enjoy the east and west coasts of the island just by turning your head.

The Big Buddha Statue is the third tallest statue in Thailand, with a height of 45 meters. The other large statues are The Great Buddha of Thailand and Luangpho Yai.

Midday - Friendship Beach for Lunch

Between Chalong and Rawai, you will find the beachside Friendship Beach Restaurant and Resort. I had an opportunity to have my lunch there at midday. The excellent international cuisine and wondrous views looking out towards Chalong Bay will long live in your memory. The restaurant also owns a swimming pool, which customers are allowed to use, and I couldn't resist jumping into it 🤩 You can refuel your body by taking a spot for lunch at the restaurant after a morning of sightseeing. 

1 pm: Phuket Seashell Museum (Rawai)

Moving swiftly towards Rawai Beach, I encountered the Seashell Museum on Visit Road. The museum is now 40 years old and is home to over 2,000 species of shells. Be sure to check out the world’s largest pearl, which weighs 240kg.

2 pm: Rawai Seafood Market

Moving onto the Rawai seafront, I took a swift stroll along with the Rawai Seafood Market. From 1 pm onwards every day, the fishermen return to the shore with their daily catch, and I was in luck after arriving at 2:00 pm 🤩 Seafood doesn’t come fresher than straight off the boats. 

2:45 pm - Laem Phromthep Cape Viewpoint

After looking at some seafood, I went to the Laem Phromthep Cape Viewpoint at quarter to three. This purpose-built viewpoint owns restaurants, shops, and a lighthouse overlooking the Andaman Ocean on the road between Rawai and Nai Harn. I was truly amazed by the views, and the beauty mesmerized me. 

3:30 pm - Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn Beach has the reputation of being one of Phuket’s finest and most picturesque beaches. This is a surfer’s paradise, and I enjoyed an hour strolling across this majestic stretch of golden sand. 

5 pm - Kata Viewpoint

On the mountainous coastline roads from Nai Harn to Kata, you will find Kata Viewpoint. I arrived there before sunset at 5:00 pm and was soaked in the beauty of my surroundings. From this lofty vantage point, you can witness Kata Noi Beach and Karon Beach in the distance. This is the quintessential photograph opportunity. 

 Fun Fact!

The southern part of Phuket has a lot of sightseeing places and vantage points to observe your surroundings. The dining experience is also one of the best.

5:30 pm - Kata Sunset Bars

After a busy day, I was ready to kick back, relax and enjoy 🤩 the Phuket sunset with a spot of food and drink. A cluster of bars and restaurants positioned above Kata Noi is the ideal place to do this. These restaurants provide some of the loftiest views overlooking the Andaman Sea that one could imagine. You need to get here as early as possible to ensure you get a table with the best views. 

If you follow my advice, you will have the best Phuket day trip experience to explore the southern part of Phuket in a single day while taking in the best sights imaginable.
