Today, we decided to do some historical digging and visit one of the most unique places in Thailand.
Vajiralongkorn Dam is a unique tourist attraction that is part of the Thong Pha Phum National Park. It’s also known as Khao Laem Dam and was initially constructed in 1985.
Furthermore, it lies across the famous River Kwai, more commonly known as the Khwae Noi River.

As the first-ever dam in Thailand to supply a water-powered 300 MW hydroelectric power station, it is something to behold!
The dam is run and managed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. It took five years to construct, uses 3x 100 MW hydropower generators, and has a storage capacity of 8,860 million m3. The concrete surface of the dam scales a height of 92 meters.
The concrete dam is 92 meters high and stretches for 1019 meters across the river Kwai. The Dam produces 300 MW of hydroelectric power.
Are you looking for something to do around the dam? Well, a lake nearby rents raft and offers boat tours. You can go swimming and enjoy the scene from another perspective. Make sure you book in advance regarding the boats because there is quite a lot of demand. Or you visit Pilok, a lovely village in the mountains.
